Author Thomas Palfy Resides In Victoria, Australia.

Q: What makes you proud to be a writer from Australia?

A: The opportunity that I can write interesting travel-photo books featuring the attractions of this country.

Q: What, or who, inspired you to become a writer?

A: When I retired in 2002, I had spare time on my hand. I sat down and created my life story “Six letters to my daughter”. This was intended strictly as a family affair. I found that writing was not only hard work but a lot of fun as well, so I decided to become a travel writer-photographer.

Q: When did you begin writing with the intention of being published?

A: In the early 2000’s.

Q: Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why?

A: At school we always had to write essays, writing became a second nature to me without especially realizing it. In my work as a chemical technologist, I had to keep writing technical reports and published articles in trade magazines.

Q: Do you come up with your title(s) before or after you write the manuscript(s)?

A: I create the title before writing the manuscript, it can be considered as the

name of the project. If I think of a better title, I might change it. I may also add a subtitle to the main title.

Q: Why do you write in the genre(s) that you’ve chosen?

A: Because of having seen so many of the attractions of Australia, it comes natural to me to describe them in essays and in pictures. By no means would this be the only genre to express my views. I have a book about digital photography and albums of my selected photos. Even my illness resulted in an inspirational book to urge people to face difficulties in life with hope and courage. This one has the provocative title “The funny side of lung cancer”.

Q: What has been your most rewarding experience while in the writing process?

A: The fact that I can express my innermost thoughts – make contact with the readers.

Q: What has been your most negative experience while in the writing process?

A: A difficult question to answer because I have never felt frustrated during writing. I am just not the sort of person who does.

Q: What has been your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey?

A: When I learnt of the existence of Internet publishers and after a long process I mastered the formatting techniques required to submit my manuscripts.

Q: What has been your most negative experience in your publishing journey?

A: Trying to deal with the various publishers before I was told of the existence of internet publishers.

Q: What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors?

A: Never give up, keep trying!

Q: Who is your favorite author and why?

A: Stephen Vizinczey because of his profound understanding of human nature.

Q: Please tell us the title(s) of your current book(s):

A: “Postcards from South Gippsland” – this book is the latest one of my Postcards from… series introducing the attractions of selected regions of Australia. My other new book is “A Collection of Images” a second collection of my best photos (The first one was “Captured with the Camera” – 2007).

Q: What format(s) are your books in: Print Only - E-Book Only - or Both?

A: Printed versions, some also available as downloads.

Q: What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?

A: I would like to continue my travel adventure books, particularly the Postcards from… series.

Q: Is there anything else that you would like to share with us?

A: Reading is a great experience, I read many books.

Books In Sync Author Spotlight Interview With Faye M. Tollison

Books In Sync Mystery Novelist Faye M. Tollison Releases ‘To Tell the Truth’ And Faye Promises That A Second Mystery Novel Is In The Works

Faye M. Tollison has loved mysteries for as long as she can remember. After twenty-seven years in the medical field, she decided to devote herself to writing her own mystery.

Faye has written several articles on writing, which were published in The Quill and a short story published in ‘Catfish Stew’, an anthology by the South Carolina Writers Workshop of which she has been a longstanding member. As a member in her local chapter of the SCWW, she wrote a number of critiques, and they were published in the chapter's newsletter, Printed Matters. She is presently a member of Sisters In Crime.

Author Faye M. Tollison resides with her three cats in upstate South Carolina and is presently writing her second mystery novel.

***************************************

Q: What makes you proud to be a writer from South Carolina, USA?

A: S.C. supports and encourages the arts. I feel very honored to one of many talented writers in this state.

Q: What, or who, inspired you to become a writer?

A: All the mystery writers I’ve read since old enough to read.

Q: When did you begin writing with the intention of being published?

A: About 8 years ago, though I was off and on writing my book. This was due to two serious back surgeries.

Q: Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why?

A: Yes, it did because my mother was an avid reader, and she always took me to the library with her and encouraged me to check out books and read them. She loved mysteries and handed that love down to me.

Q: Do you come up with your title(s) before or after you write the manuscript(s)?

A: Before

Q: Why do you write in the genre(s) that you’ve chosen?

A: I’ve always loved mysteries and suspense so it just seemed natural to write in that genre.

Q: What has been your most rewarding experience while in the writing process?

A: To see how much I’ve learned about writing and to see how much my writing has improved as I write.

Q: What has been your most negative experience while in the writing process?

A: People in my life who have not taken my writing as seriously as I do.

Q: What has been your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey?

A: To see my book in print with an awesome book cover.

Q: What has been your most negative experience in your publishing journey?

A: Trying to get an agent to take my book. It was a terribly frustrating and discouraging experience. So much good talent is being ignored because traditional publishing is wanting the big names.

Q: What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors?

A: Believe in yourself.

Q: Who is your favorite author and why?

A: M. C. Beaton because she creates such wonderfully interesting characters.

To Tell The Truth by Faye M. Tollison

Anna Kayce had faced many difficulties in her life and had carried some heavy responsibilities. When she met Senator Kenneth Levall, her world soared. At least until it collapsed. Until that fateful day when the gun she held fired, and the senator fell on the floor at her feet and died.

Undercover cop, Detective John Mentz, came into her life and fell deeply in love with Anna. He gave her reason to question her relationship with the senator, who he was investigating for drug trafficking.

But as strong a woman as Anna was, she had to dig deep to find the strength to endure what followed: the murder of her sister, the destruction of her life, and lastly facing a courtroom full of people, a judge, and a jury in an effort to save the man she really loved. He had confessed to the murder of the senator in order to protect Anna from being charged with the murder.

It was now time for Anna to stand up and tell the truth.

Books In Sync Author Spotlight Interview With Cheryl Carpinello

Books In Sync Author/Teacher Cheryl Carpinello Writes Children/Middle Grade Fiction. Author Cheryl Carpinello Releases ‘Guinevere-On the Eve of Legend’. Cheryl Carpinello’s second book ‘Young Knights of the Round Table: The Kings' Ransom’ is a work-in-progress. Look for a preview later in 2011.

Cheryl Carpinello is first and foremost a teacher. Nothing invigorates her more than guiding young minds in exploring themselves and the world around them. Introducing young people to the literature of the ages and the importance of the written word (even their own!) is a thrill that has never subsided. And so today, she writes for young readers (grades 3-6) and hopes to capture their imaginations as they learn to love literature. Cheryl can think of no better vehicle to do this with than the eternal legend of King Arthur.

**************************

Q: What, or who, inspired you to become a writer?

A: I loved reading stories that sent me to another place and time (and I still do). I have always wanted to create my own stories. However, I started to write in earnest after my years as a high school English teacher. I want to inspire reluctant readers to become readers.

Q: When did you begin writing with the intention of being published?

A: Probably about 20 years ago.

Q: Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why?

A: Yes. As a high school teacher, I came into contact each year with students who did not like to read. I wanted to reach those students before high school in hopes of making readers out of them. I found the King Arthur Legend to be a great vehicle for this.

Q: Do you come up with your title(s) before or after you write the manuscript(s)?

A: A little of both. I knew from the beginning with “Guinevere” that I was going to give readers an insight into Guinevere before she married Arthur. So adding “On the Eve of Legend” just felt right from the start. With my next book I planned on titling it “Young Knights of the Round Table,” but didn't add “The King's Ransom” until nearly half the book was finished.

Q: Why do you write in the genre(s) that you’ve chosen?

A: I chose Children's Literature because elementary school is where students become readers. Also, I still love to read that genre!

Q: What has been your most rewarding experience while in the writing process?

A: The creative process I go through with each story is very rewarding. I loved being able to share my journey with my students.

Q: What has been your most negative experience while in the writing process?

A: I really haven't had a negative experience, but I did have to go back to “Young Knights” once I thought I was finished and totally rewrite one of the characters.

Q: What has been your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey?

A: Learning, learning, and learning!

Q: What has been your most negative experience in your publishing journey?

A: It's just frustrating at times, like learning any new skill.

Q: What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors?

A: Keep positive and believe in yourself, your work, and your vision.

Q: Who is your favorite author and why?

A: This is a hard question. Probably J R R Tolkien. He was a fabulous storyteller who managed to include morality in his books that stayed with the readers.

**************************

Current Book:
Guinevere: On the Eve of Legend

Format(s): Paperback and E-Book

Q: What special projects are you working on now and what books do we have to look forward to in the future?

A: I'm finishing up “Young Knights of the Round Table: The King's Ransom” and hopefully it will be out this Fall. Once that book is on its way, I'll go back to my next project that I have been working on for the last year: an autobiography of Tutankhamen for elementary students. Egypt has always been a magnet for me, and after spending 2 weeks there in 2008, I have been researching and writing King Tut's own story.

Cheryl Carpinello’s second book ‘Young Knights of the Round Table: The Kings' Ransom’ is a work-in-progress. Look for a preview in 2011.

Q: Is there anything else that you would like to share with us?

A: I do writing workshops for elementary schools and the Girl Scouts. In addition to reading, I believe that all kids and adults can learn to write. It is a matter of building confidence in the prospective writer and that is what we work on in the writing workshops. I guess that once a person is an educator, that teaching and encouraging nature stays with them.
